This two day training focuses on the purpose of the needs assessment process and the design of a needs assessment approach for program planning, understanding "science-based" prevention, developing skills and knowledge for process, outcome, and impact evaluation will also be covered.

Communication Skills - P103

Exploring Prevention Ethics - P105

Prevention Program Planning and Development - P106

This two day training gives an overview of guidelines for prevention program planning and development, and suggestions regarding the appropriate strategies, interrelationships and appropriate structure for program development. The development of program resources, the prevention technical assistance provider's role, the evaluating and planning cycle, and its relationship to the OASAS Prevention Workplan will also be discussed.

Prevention Practicum - P107

This 1.5 day training (plus development and submission of a project) provides learning and practice within the five prevention competency domains. This course provides 9 clock hours of training in a classroom setting. Participants earn an additional 3 clock hours of time when they successfully complete and submit their project products to course instructors. If participants spend much more than three hours completing their project, the additional hours should be considered supervised practical experience in one or more of the performance domains.

Supervising Prevention Professionals, Volunteers, and Projects - P201

Training and Facilitation Skills Enhancement - P203

On the first day of this two day training, participants will learn the difference between training and facilitation. They will gain an understanding of how to assess their own skills, how to use trainer tools, how to facilitate large and small groups and how to develop presentation/platform skills. The second day will include an understanding of participant application, extemporaneous speaking, how to lead energizers and icebreakers, techniques for action planning, and how to deal with problem participants and situations.

Pharmacology for Prevention Professionals - P204

During this one day training participants will gain an understanding of pharmacology basics as it relates to gateway drugs, inhalants and other depressants, stimulants and hallucinogens. Club drugs, designer drugs and steroids will also be discussed. Implications for prevention practitioners will be addressed for each of the drug categories.
