The process of brain changes due to maltreatment starts as early as infancy. Infants/toddlers, children and adolescents who have been traumatized by emotional, sexual, physical abuse and/or neglect, suffer radical changes in their brain that predispose them to such disorders/symptoms as: ADHD, Schizophrenia, Conduct Disorder, Depression, PTSD, Anxiety, Dissociative episodes, aggressive behaviors, and the 3 types of flashbacks. In order to understand these consequences of trauma, and in order to offer treatment to these children, we need to understand these biological changes in the brain, and how these changes create acting out behaviors and symptoms of mental illness. Criteria for qualifying for the Grandparenting certification are as follows:
This particular course is for those who work in either treatment or prevention and are already credentialed by New York State Office of Alcohol and Substance Abuse Services. It is a 90-day grandparenting opportunity for NYS CASAC's and CPP's.
Applicants for the CASAC Gambling Specialty Designation must:
- Be a current CASAC in good standing for a minimum of five years;
- Attest to having a minimum of five years of appropriate work experience as a provider of alcoholism and substance abuse treatment and/or gambling addiction services; and
- Attest to having completed 15 clock hours of appropriate gambling training
Applicants for the CPP Gambling Specialty Designation must:
- Be a current CPP in good standing;
- Attest to having a minimum of five years of appropriate work experience as a provider of alcoholism and substance abuse and/or gambling prevention services; and
